Rowan's Puppies Day 14

And, they're up! Puppies are now 2 weeks old. Their eyes are open, they can hear, and they are MOBILE.

They can't see far, but they can see MOM, and when they do, they yell for their supper! Now she has to be VERY careful getting into the box, as they can see her coming and all crowd around her. The look on her face is quite worried, "How will I ever lie down with them mugging me?"
But, by slowly lowering herself with her front feet tucked in, she manages. The pups immediately rush her, scrambling over one another. Then all is quiet for a bit while they are eating. While they are eating, they are bathed and nuzzled. Once they are fed, Rowan quickly makes her getaway.
The pups are left looking around in confusion for her. But now they are aware of one another. They stumble around the box - most are able to take a few steps before toppling over. They paw one another, make tiny high-pitched puppy barks at one another, and do all sorts of big dog things. They shake themselves (which usually results in them flopping over on their side), they yawn, they sneeze:

And the next thing you know, they are asleep again, and all is peaceful.

Duncan is daying for his chance to play with the pups. He is very curious and can often be found peering into the box. I don't believe he knows they are HIS puppies, but he surely is fascinated! Rowan is tolerant, to a point. NO FEET may enter the box. She will immediately chase him out if he tries to climb in with them.

We've been wanting to get the pups outside for a short period now that their eyes are open. They are longing to explore - they stumble off their blanket onto the slippery kitchen floor while I'm cleaning the box and putting in a new blanket, they exlore the box and are beginning to notice the toys Rowan keeps throwing into the box with them. If it would stop RAINING here, we could let them have a real adventure in the yard (under the strict supervision of their mom and two grammies...)
Pups are still gaining at a great rate. The collective group is now gaining over a pound a day, all compliments of Rowan. No wonder she is eating so much!
