Carter started showing last Memorial Day Weekend and has now finished his show championship, earning his 15 points and 2 majors. Some shows he won, some shows he almost won, some shows he lost; sometimes he behaved, sometimes he lived up to his name. He enjoyed every show and every new person he met.
Thanks to Carter's owners, Nick & Annik Smith & their son Elliott, for spoiling him rotten, doing the work to prepare him for showing (they took him to handling and obedience classes faithfully, kept him in perfect physical condition and did anything I asked to help him look his best!), for letting me borrow him a few times a month to go to shows, and for giving him such a super home life. No breeder could ask for a better home. Whatever happened at the shows, they were always happy to see him and cheered him on faithfully.
Carter's big sister Rowan won Best of Breed at that same show and got to compete in the Sporting Group, which will be televised on Animal Planet (sorry - don't know when yet). This is her first TV appearance (haha) and she performed like a pro.
It's great fun to show when you win, and still a good time when you lose. I got to see some of my friends I've not seen for a while, got to see some nice new puppies folks are showing, and got to watch some really great dogs compete in the ring. A couple of good friends also won majors this weekend, and I was happy to be at ringside to congratulate them. Supporting one another, win or lose, is what makes this fun. It's important to be a good sport and remember that whatever happens, it's just one judge's opinion. Everyone thinks their dog is beautiful, and no dog is perfect.
Thanks to all my friends for their warm and sincere congratulations. It means a lot to have folks there to share it with! Besides, they all know the truth - now that Carter is finished, they won't have to compete against him again! :-)
This photo has been posted of Carter before - I'll post the photo from this weekend when it arrives. The second photo is one his dad took at a show in NJ this winter (he's the black dog, obviously!).
